The EFL is reportedly ready to scrap the 3pm Saturday blackout rule and make every match available for live broadcast from 2024.

Current rules prevent matches being broadcast live between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on a Saturday afternoon.

Clubs across the Football League voted to expand the iFollow streaming service over the summer, with an increased number of fixtures being streamed over the coming season such as midweek and Bank Holiday Matches.

Games during the World Cup will also be streamed, with the Premier League and Championship having a winter break.

However, the blackout rule could be scrapped altogether for the 2024/25 season, according to a report by The Daily Mail.

The EFL is said to be targeting companies such as Facebook, Netflix, Google, Apple and Amazon in addition to the current domestic rights holders.

The report claims their current Sky Sports contract is worth around £119million per year but the aim is to increase this figure by selling more matches.

The current deal includes 138 televised EFL matches per season, with two Championship fixtures broadcast each weekend.

The blackout rule has been in place since the 1960s but was briefly relaxed during the 2020/21 season when all games were played behind closed doors due to the pandemic. Wanderers were one of the biggest online audiences outside the Championship.

Fans currently pay £10 per game to watch on iFollow, while commentary is also available for matches that are not being streamed. Meanwhile, viewers outside the UK can watch every fixture live via the streaming service.
