Barnsley assistant Martin Paterson's view on Ian Evatt and Wanderers 14815571

Barnsley assistant head coach Martin Paterson has called Ian Evatt “a winner” and believes Wanderers will be “chomping at the bit” to return to winning ways this weekend.

The Yorkshire club are currently sixth in the League One table ahead of this weekend’s trip to the UniBol.

Both sides are aiming to bounce back from league defeats, having lost against Forest Green and Exeter respectively.

Paterson is already familiar with Ian Evatt and had nothing but positive things to say about the Bolton chief.

He told the club’s website: “Really good team. Their last two games have not gone well for them, that makes our task even tougher going away.

“I know Ian [Evatt] very well, I was on my UEFA Pro Licence with him. I know what kind of character he is, he's a winner.

“Going away to Bolton in League One is one hell of a fixture, and when results haven't gone their way in the last two, they won the three before that.

"They'll be chomping at the bit to go and win a home game, so it will be a really tough task and we're fully aware of that."

Paterson joined Barnsley over the summer following the appointment of Michael Duff as head coach.

He added: "[Evatt] has been successful in his management career, in his first post. He got obviously the Bolton post, which is a massive club.

“Again, spending time with him was a massive help for me to pick his brains on the course.

"On a personal level, I see him as someone who has been excellent with me, really open. Confident in what he does in terms of his coaching and management.

“Obviously, you see his body of work at Bolton and you can see clearly why he's a confident chap. He's got a good team there and they play some excellent stuff."

Wanderers won on penalties when the sides met in the opening round of the League Cup early last season following a goalless draw at the UniBol.

The Whites are unbeaten in their last 13 matches against the Yorkshire outfit – a record stretching back to 1998.
