Wanderers will welcome League One rivals Portsmouth to the UniBol in the Papa Johns Trophy quarter final.
Ian Evatt’s men reached this stage following a 4-0 victory against Manchester United Under-21s at the UniBol on Tuesday night.
Dapo Afolayan, Aaron Morley, Amadou Bakayoko and Conor Bradley were all on target for the Whites against United’s youngsters.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth recorded a 3-0 win against Stevenage in the last 16 thanks to goals from Jay Mingi, Josh Koroma and Joe Pigott.
Danny Cowley’s side are currently eighth in the table – three points behind Wanderers, although they have two games in hand at this stage.
The points were shared when the sides met at the UniBol in the league last season, with Kieran Sadlier’s penalty cancelling out Aiden O’Brien’s opener.
Pompey also make the trip to Bolton in the league on Saturday, January 14 which means they will now face the Whites in back-to-back fixtures.
Other quarter-final ties include Bristol Rovers hosting Plymouth or Wimbledon, Accrington making the trip to Lincoln and Cheltenham facing Salford or Port Vale.
The competition is no longer regionalised between northern and southern sections, which was the case in the previous rounds.
Wanderers have gone one step further than last season when they were knocked out in the last 16 following a late 1-0 defeat at Hartlepool.
The Whites won the competition in 1989 when it was known as the Sherpa Van Trophy, running out 4-1 winners against Torquay in the final at Wembley. Julian Darby, Dean Crombie, Trevor Morgan and Jeff Chandler were all on target that day.
Quarter-final ties are currently scheduled to be played in the week commencing Monday, January 9.
