Dapo Afolayan’s move to St Pauli was the right outcome for all parties, says Wanderers boss Ian Evatt.
Despite finishing last season as the Whites’ top scorer, Afolayan has struggled to nail down a place in the side this term.
The fee has officially been declared as undisclosed but sources in Germany claim the deal was worth £500,000.
Evatt insists it was “a mutual decision” to bring an end to Afolayan’s time at the University of Bolton Stadium.
The Bolton boss is grateful for the forward’s efforts over the past couple of years, but he isn’t going to dwell on the past as the Whites aim to keep climbing the table.
“This was very much a mutual decision,” he told The Bolton News. “It is not just down to us to sell, it is a two-way street and it was a dual decision.
“As a manager, you always hear of fees being branded around. But any player is only worth what an interested party is prepared to offer.
“We found the offer acceptable, Dapo found their offer acceptable and from that perspective, we will shake hands and move on.
“We thank him very much for everything he did for us, and he has thanked us for all the help and support that we have given him. We have been very good for him.
“We wish him well and the club moves on, simple as that.”
Evatt says there is no “ill feeling” following Afolayan’s exit and admits there were a number of factors that influenced his decision to let the 25-year-old leave the club.
The boss is confident the forward will be successful in Germany as St Pauli aim to avoid relegation from Bundesliga 2.
He added: “My decision is always based on what I think it best for this football club.
“There are lots of parts to that decision – what effect it will have on the team, what effect it will have on the environment, what effect it will have financially, how the player feels and what he wants to do and achieve in his career.
“There are lots of moving parts to this and as I said there is no ill feeling whatsoever.
“We all feel like this was the best for both parties and we will shake hands and move on. The world goes on, football moves on.
“Dapo will have no doubt a lot of success over there because he is a good young man and a bright talent.
“We will try to progress the team in whatever way we see fit to get us to our end goal. It happens in every transfer window at every football club, this is no different for us.”
