Wanderers forward Elias Kachunga has apologised for his actions during the 1-0 win against Forest Green on Tuesday night.
Dion Charles was shown a bizarre red card after Kachunga appeared to lash out at Brandon Cooper off the ball.
The Northern Ireland international had earlier opened the scoring with a clinical volley from Gethin Jones’ cross.
Kachunga took to social media to thank everyone who has supported him since the incident in midweek.
He wrote on his Twitter page: “I just want to apologise for my actions in the game on Tuesday night. This is not how my family raised me and there is no excuse.
“Everyone who works with me and knows me knows that I always give everything for the team and try to make everyone smile. However, I am just a human and I go through periods of struggle just like everyone else.
“Special thanks to my team, gaffer and family who have supported me straight away after the game during this low point.
“And thank you to those fans who have supported me, it means a lot when you are feeling low. I just hope the people sending me abuse can find peace in their life. Love Kacha.”
The 30-year-old attacker has scored twice in 34 appearances for the Whites since the start of the campaign.
Speaking after the game, Ian Evatt told The Bolton News: “Taking tonight out of the equation, I think he has had a rough time of things.
“I think he deserves more respect than sometimes he is shown. The goals thing, obviously we all see that, but there is so much more that he brings to the team.
“Today, he has let himself down. For tonight he has got nobody else to blame but himself. But in general – and they are two different things here – we should support him. He needs support.”
