Wanderers are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Cameron Jerome in a move boss Ian Evatt expects to benefit the Whites on and off the pitch.

Jerome joins Wanderers as a free agent after leaving Championship side Luton Town and has signed an 18-month deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The 36-year-old arrives with an outstanding career CV showing over 200 Premier League appearances and 160 career goals.

The Huddersfield-born forward had made 21 Championship appearances for Luton this season to help the Hatters challenge for a play-off place.

And he is now set to assist Wanderers’ own promotion push as a key member of the Whites’ strikeforce, who will also bring some vital added qualities to Evatt’s squad.

“Number one, he is still fit for purpose and able to do the job. And number two, the additional piece he brings is he can really help the players in terms of knowledge, experience and know-how,” said the Wanderers’ boss.

“He’s played at the top level, in Europe and played 50-odd times in the Championship in the last two years.

“People shouldn’t be mis-guided by his age. His physical data is still unbelievable and he’s in incredible shape.

“We’re signing him because we think he can have an affect on the team and help us.

“And we also need some more experience in the dressing room – somebody the younger players can learn from and bounce off and understand the pressures of playing in big games and what it takes to win big games.

“Cam is all those things. We’ve got some very good forward players in the building and he will be a shining example to all of those.”

After starting his first-team career in the Championship with Cardiff City in the 2004/05 season, Jerome went on to play in the Premier League with Birmingham City, Stoke City, Norwich City and Crystal Palace (on loan).

Capped 10 times at England U21 level, the striker helped both Birmingham and Norwich win promotion to the top-flight and also collected a League Cup winner’s medal with the Blues in 2011.

He has also scored Championship goals for Derby County and after a spell in the Turkish top tier had a first taste of League One in 2020/21.

A season with MK Dons produced 15 goals and a move back up to the Championship with Luton before taking up a new challenge with Wanderers, where he becomes the fourth new arrival of the January transfer window.

Jerome will wear squad number 35 and is eligible to be part of the Wanderers’ squad for their televised lunch-time kick-off at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
