Darren Moore won’t be writing off Sheffield Wednesday old boy Elias Kachunga when he returns to Hillsborough tonight.
The striker endured a rough single season in South Yorkshire, scoring just once in 29 appearances as the club fell out of the Championship.
Moore took charge of the Owls just a couple of months before their fate was confirmed but praised Kachunga’s attitude during the short time they worked alongside each other.
“It was a difficult time when we were all here together, starting games was on and off for him but he is someone with a wonderful talent, someone who can work in tight areas with the ball at his feet and he’s someone who has a bit of a goal threat, for his size he’s decent in the air too,” he said.
“It’s good he is still carving out a career not too far across the way and being effective. It might be off the bench, but he is still being effective at a very, very good club.”
Moore confirmed that George Byers will miss the game with a hamstring injury, along with the suspended Dominic Iorfa, but that left-sided wing-back Marvin Johnston was due to return for the first time since February 18.
The Wednesday boss believes the two teams’ styles will make it a match to remember.
“The atmosphere will be electric. I’ll extend that to the fans again because they have been absolutely brilliant this season so far. They will come again and sing their hearts out, and we know that Hillsborough underneath the lights, there is no better footballing environment,” he said.
“It is a good footballing match, two teams that want to get up and at you, play attack-minded football. There are two teams very much in the ascendancy in the league at this stage of the season.
“Both clubs know each other as two of the bigger ones at this level of football.
“They have got a wonderful brand of football and have a fluidity to their game, they bring a lot of interchanges and play on the front foot but so do we. It bodes well for a really good game.”
