A blue plaque will be installed in tribute to a Bolton Wanderers player who scored the first goal at Wembley 100 years ago.
David Jack played in the White Horse final in 1923 for Wanderers, scoring a goal after just two minutes to give his team a lead against West Ham in a game they would go on to win 2-0.
Now a blue plaque will be installed outside where he was born - 119 Chorley Old Road in 1898.
The player had in fact begun his club career away from the town with Plymouth Argyll, which Bolton won against at Wembley in the Papa Johns Trophy at the weekend - almost 100 years on from their first appearance at the stadium.
Jack later went on to play for Arsenal and is one of only two players to score 100 top flight goals for two clubs, being joined later by Jimmy Greaves and Alan Shearer.
A plaque has been commissioned by the Bolton Family History Society which will be unveiled at his home, which is now a Premier Store, later this month.
His family and Bolton Wanderers funded the plaque which was organised by the Bolton Family History Society.
David Baker, the chairman of the history group, said: “There has been interested generated from the family of David Jack.
“They made a request for a plaque at his birthplace on Chorley Old Road.
“He was born in Bolton and we are interested in football so decided to help get a plaque organised.
“The house is now a Premier Store, they brought together three addresses to make it.
“He was born in the middle house.
“The official unveiling will be attended by two or three members of the family and other interested parties.
“At the cup final of 1923 there were over 200,000, police had to use a white horse to control the crowd and get the game started.
“David Jack scored in the third minute making him the first player to score at Wembley.”
Mr Barker added: “I do think it is important to commemorate football players, just look at the numbers who go to the football museum in Manchester.”

The 1923 FA Cup Final was known as the white horse final because of the image of a police horse being used to control the crowd to allow the game to begin.
It is the latest blue plaque honouring a Bolton people.
In 2008 one was unveiled in memory of former England footballer Alan Ball on the house in Farnworth where he was born.
