Luke Mbete out for the season at Bolton Wanderers 16457716

Luke Mbete may have played his last game for Bolton Wanderers after picking up a knee injury which rules him out until the end of the season.

The Manchester City defender will be missing for between four and six weeks after hurting himself in the 1-1 draw with Cambridge United on Easter Monday.

Ricardo Santos and Eoin Toal are expected to return by the final weekend of the campaign at Bristol Rovers – but Ian Evatt admits it is looking unlikely that they will come back sooner.

Wanderers had to name MJ Williams as a centre-back in the 1-0 win at Oxford United after Mbete pulled out of the squad late in the week.

“Luke’s knee got injured in the tackle at the end which led to the free kick, and Manchester City tell us that will be four to six weeks, so that means he goes behind Jack Iredale, Ricardo Santos and Eoin Toal,” he said.

“We are doing our best to get Rico and Eoin recovered but right now it isn’t looking great. It’s possible if we make it (to the play-offs) but right now these boys are what we have got and they are doing absolutely everything to get us over the line.”

Wanderers go to Burton Albion on Tuesday night looking for their first-ever win at the Pirelli Stadium, and with a slight question mark over striker Dion Charles, who picked up an impact injury on his knee in the second half at the Kassam Stadium.

Evatt knows his hosts will be tough nuts to crack, especially in front of their own fans.

“We said before the game that we wanted four points from the two away games, that it would be a fair target with three home games to come, so to get three right away is huge for us,” he said.

“It does take a little bit of pressure off Tuesday night but we also know how tough it will be. They had an excellent result against Sheffield Wednesday, so we will go there, rest and recover, and give it our best shot.”
