Evatt backing Thomason after 'upset' at missed opportunity at Burton 16684743

George Thomason has been urged to shrug-off his second-half miss at Burton Albion.

The midfielder looked gutted after he failed to turn George Johnston’s far post header over the line at the Pirelli Stadium at a crucial stage of the game.

But Ian Evatt was happy with Thomason’s overall performance alongside Aaron Morley in midfield and reckons both young players stuck to their task well.

“He (George) was upset but he cares immensely about this football club and about our progress. Nobody means to miss chances, the key is that you create them,” he said.

“I think he was excellent, him and Aaron’s defensive responsibilities, the way they were combative and winning their duels, second balls, I thought it was a really good performance.”

Referee Andrew Kitchen also supplied a few talking points during the first half which had the Bolton boss shaking his head.

“I think the referee made a tackle and gave a foul," he said. "I’ve never seen that before. All we could do is focus on ourselves. Referees make decisions and get things wrong, they are only human."
