'We have to be smart' - Evatt drops clues on Bristol Rovers selection plans 16574721

Wanderers are preparing to take the Papa Johns route at Bristol Rovers on Sunday.

Ian Evatt admits he is considering major changes to his staring line-up when Bolton visit the Memorial Stadium for their last game of the regular season.

Ricardo Santos will be a certain starter in his first appearance since the 4-0 win against Plymouth Argyle at Wembley in the Papa Johns Trophy Final, otherwise the Bolton boss has said he will be naming a competitive line-up which takes into consideration some of the knocks and bumps his players have taken in recent weeks.

“We want to win – and I don’t take losing lightly,” he told The Bolton News. “I absolutely want to win the game on Sunday but not necessarily at any cost. We have to be smart with the ones that are carrying injuries – and there have been a few.

“There has been a necessity for some players to play because we have been trying to get into the play-offs but that isn’t there, so we have to plan with the play-offs in mind.

“I think you have seen how we handled the Papa Johns Trophy and when we made changes it didn’t weaken us or mean that we weren’t taking the game seriously, it just meant that the plan for the game was ‘this’ and the next one was ‘this’.

“I am taking the game extremely seriously and this week in training we have had to keep the intensity high. We are at our best when we play with aggression, with and without the ball. And we have had to drive those standards because it would be easy to take a backwards step, take it easier, have one flip-flop on but not two. But there’s none of that.

“We are focussed, we are ready and we will be taking the game very seriously on Sunday.”
