I’m not necessarily talking about the likes of Anelka, Djorkaeff and Okocha who were top quality players but Bolton players you really liked and rated yourself.

The three players I really rated and liked were Bergsson, Gunnlaugson and Stelios.
Bergsson was a superb player for Bolton, bargain signing but turned out to be quality, solid, intelligent and a top guy. I can’t think of a better centre back for Bolton than Bergsson.
Gunnlaugson was brilliant at the start of the 98/99 season, was that really 25 years ago? He couldn’t stop scoring and was brilliant on the ball. I thought he was going to become a real star player for Bolton but he soon wanted to leave and he was gone quickly. He never did seem to recreate that form at Leicester.
Stelios was brilliant, he was excellent on the ball, he always seemed to play well and could create and score goals.

Anyone want to give their three players you really rated?

Alan Stubbs.

Yes, I know it was a shitty way of jumping the ship when he left but as a player he was excellent and certainly good enough to have played for England.

Andy Walker.

He was a much better player than McGinlay but he was never the same player again after the injury he got just before he returned to Celtic.

Peter Thompson.

Only the oldies will remember him (he was in the 1966 World Cup winning squad) and we only got him towards the end of his career but it was the first time I ever realised that there was a such a difference in quality of player than the ones I'd seen at Bolton up to then. He was class.

Not sure I've ever seen a better player playing for Bolton since until Hierro had that wonderful second half to the season with us.

Three? Way too difficult for me. But if I might give an honourable mention to Gareth Williams, probably as good a passer of a ball as I've seen in a Wanderers shirt.

Arnar Gunnlaugsson was ace, one of my all-time favourites. One of the few players we've had who was unplayable when on form.

Andy Walker as well, brilliant striker.

Stuart Holden was outstanding until his injury.

Keith Branagan was a great keeper but gets forgotten about now due to Jussi. Always thought Claus Jensen was a quality player as well. Others i always rated but didn't get much credit were Simon Charlton, Mick Whitlow, Paul Warhurst and going further back Mark Seagraves.

Crazy that Holden only played 30 games for Bolton and Gunnlaugson 42 times but they certainly were  memorable. Holder’s career seemed very similar to Mark Davies, both really decent midfielders who’s careers came to a very abrupt end due to injuries.
Walker and McGinlay were surely Bolton’s most prolific strike partnership, they were quality. If only Bolton had them now.

Laville only played 15 times for Bolton but you’re right he looked really solid, was a shame he suffered such a serious injury that ended his Bolton career so early.
You wonder how Ricketts’ career would have gone had he stayed at Bolton. There was a player in him definitely but he didn’t have a good attitude.

I forgot Ivan Klasnic. What a finisher.

This is a great question Mad Dog but almost impossible to answer, there are so many standout players and the older you are the more there are. Difficult as it is I’d go for Roy Greaves as my No1 all time favourite followed by Super John and along with Sluffy I’d go with Peter Thompson who was just different class to what we’d been used to and when you think that we’d taken Tony Dunne and Willie Morgan from Manure too. Amazing times, let’s hope we can get them back?

For me Muamba. Then I just started actively following football as I got to an age when I could turn on the TV myself Smile
His passing was phenomenal, his defensive qualities too. It's a pity he died like that...

I bring great news!

He didn't die.

He's alive and well.
