Evatt shares Bolton transfer update after Everton stalemate 17041141

Ian Evatt says Wanderers are still looking to be active in the transfer market as the new season draws nearer.

The Whites brought in Zac Ashworth and Carlos Mendes Gomes from West Brom and Luton Town respectively over the past week.

But Evatt is still looking to bolster his squad and says there is a “clear plan” of what is needed heading into the new season.

“I do think we will be active in the transfer market right up until deadline day,” the manager explained.

“We don’t necessarily have to do all our business for the very first game, but we have a clear plan of what we want and what we need. We will see how that develops through August.”

Evatt was speaking after the goalless draw against Premier League Everton at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Both sides had chances to win it, with Nathan Baxter and Joao Virginia making several impressive stops.

“I think it was a positive game,” Evatt continued. “It was a really good test and a good workout.

The first 10 minutes, we were almost rabbits in the headlights a little bit. The game was just a bit too fast for us and we lacked a bit of belief.

“Sometimes reputations go a long way and we probably paid them a little bit too much respect.

“But as the half went on, I thought we got stronger and stronger. They had the better of the first quarter and then we came into it.

“Both teams created quite a lot of chances and somehow the game has managed to stay 0-0.”

The Bolton boss also confirmed his squad had come through the fixture without any fresh injury concerns.

“That’s the biggest positive, that everyone is unscathed,” he added. “I thought as the game went on, Rico (Santos) in particular got stronger and stronger which is a really positive sign after his illness.

“There is lots to like about parts of the game and there are some parts not to like. We are still very much a work in progress getting ready for the big kick-off.”
