Morley set consistency challenge ahead of Charlton clash 17369155

Aaron Morley has been challenged to find the consistency in performance to keep him as a regular starter at Wanderers.

The popular playmaker has been in and out of Ian Evatt’s side this season – starting just five games in League One.

He created a goal for Randell Williams on Saturday against Northampton before moving back to the bench at Wycombe. But Morley kept himself in Evatt’s eye with a solid cameo in the second half, finished off with a penalty to open his league account for the season.

As Wanderers prepare to return to Charlton – scene of one of Morley’s finest hours last season – Evatt has discussed what the former Rochdale man must do to guarantee himself more game time.

“We want consistency, and that’s everyone, including Aaron,” he explained.

“I think in the first half against Northampton he took up some excellent positions, he and George on the half-turn, driving forwards. I think everyone then needed to improve the final pass, the last decision detail.

“Aaron just has to keep working on his game and make sure he gets that consistency. We know he has the technique, but he needs to make sure he is affecting games positively each and every week.

“We also need him doing the defensive side of the game, winning duels, tracking runners, all those things are vital for a midfield player if they want to stay in our team.

“We have some good midfield players and we’ll keep pushing Aaron, keep pushing them all for more improvement.”

Wanderers have won six of the eight games that Morley has started this season, losing against Wigan in the league and Championship Middlesbrough in the cup.

The 23-year-old scored a brilliant free-kick at The Valley in front of the TV cameras in January as Bolton recorded a 2-1 win, with Dion Charles also on the scoresheet.
