Wanderers have breathed a sigh of relief after scans on Jack Iredale’s knee injury have come back clear.
The Australian defender pulled out of training on Thursday after complaining of pain in the knee he injured at the same stage of last season.
But after checks at hospital, Ian Evatt is now confident the former Cambridge United man will not miss a significant amount of football.
“Jack had a little niggle in his knee that he injured last season in training,” the manager explained after Friday night’s 2-0 win at Fleetwood. “Fortunately, we had it scanned today and it is nothing.
“There is a tiny bit of swelling in there that we need to get off, but there has been no re-injury, it was just more precaution than anything else.”
Victory at Highbury lifted Wanderers above Peterborough United and back into the automatic promotion spots, two points behind leaders Portsmouth, but with a game in hand.
Evatt rated the result as one of the best his side had achieved this season, given the horrendous rain and wind that battered the Fylde Coast on the evening.
“Football is a mindset thing, for me,” he said. “Tonight, it was all about mindset and mentality.
“It was about not worrying about the external factors, the wind, the pitch etc, we just needed to be the best version of us.
“We have really good athletes, good players, so we should be able to deal with any conditions. It was making sure the players believed in that.
“What we saw there was that the players are on their way to having that right mentality to play in different types of games and be who we are.”
Wanderers host Burton Albion on Monday and will again look to shuffle their squad to keep players fresh – which could mean recalls for the likes of Will Forrester, Aaron Morley, Paris Maghoma and one of the second-half goal-scorers at Fleetwood, Victor Adeboyejo.
Evatt added: “The squad has been amazing during this period – we have rotated and changed players, trying to keep people fresh. That will happen again on Monday because of the nature of the games.
“The players have all taken it so well, supported their team-mates, they are all ready to try and help us win – and Victor coming off the bench to score, I am delighted for him.”
