Having squandered away a fantastic title winning position over the last two months it’s finally showtime for this team.
For ages we were playing poorly but rode our luck to scab unconvincing wins and draws against less salubrious opposition - enough to convince ourselves it would be ok and we’d get better.
But in the 5 games prior to yesterday we only got 7 points and we’ve been caught so that if every top team wins every remaining game we’d finish in the playoffs behind Pompey and Barnsley.
Obviously that can’t happen due to our fixtures- but ours is the toughest schedule of the lot so we now have to make sure we win ours, especially against Barnsley, Derby and Stevenage at their grounds and Pompey at home. We no longer have the wriggle room to drop points - but we have plenty of opportunity to inflict damage on our rivals.
If this team is really as good as the hype it’s time to show it starting on Tuesday and nothing less than a win will do IMO as a draw will suit them (and Derby) far more than it would us
No more excuses - it’s showtime.
