Looking Back: Driver heading wrong way along Exchange Street 17939575

It might look at first glance that the driver in this photo has got lost and ended up in a pedestrian zone in Bolton town centre.

But in 1972, Exchange Street was still open to traffic.

Having said that it does appear as though the car is heading the wrong way along the street as it turns into Mawdsley Street.

On the left you can see the side entrance to the recently-built Arndale Centre.

I used to be a member of the The Wilton Casino on Mawdsley Street, there was also an exclusive posh members club upstairs called Clouseaus - I was more your Bus Inn type drinker in the next street Back Cheapside!

Wilton's was bang on the corner where the car is turning...

...and the canopy on Mawdsley Street itself was the entrance to Clouseaus iirc.

I think it might have had T. Ball shoes there in more recent years.

A few people thought it had a connection to Bobby Ball from Blackburn?
