Opta's League One supercomputer is backing Wanderers and Birmingham to have success in the upcoming season.
The Whites are aiming to bounce back from their play-off heartbreak against Oxford and go one step further this time around.
However, it looks set to be a tough season on paper with Birmingham and Rotherham among the clubs who have been active on the transfer front.
Opta has used a wide range of data to run 10,000 simulations for the current season and then calculate the average places.
They predict Wanderers are currently the most side likely club to finish in the automatic promotion spots, although plenty of factors could change in the coming weeks and months.
Opta stated: “These projections are based on what the Opta supercomputer knows at the moment. Essentially, if every game in League One was to be played today, this is how it sees the league finishing.
“Of course, these projections will change throughout the season, thousands of times, based on real life data powering the seasonal simulations.”
Birmingham are also tipped to finish in the top two. The Blues are aiming to bounce back from relegation from the Championship under new boss Chris Davies, who previously worked as Ange Postecoglou’s assistant at Tottenham.
Huddersfield are also expected to be up there under Michael Duff, who took charge earlier this summer. Duff previously guided Barnsley to the play-off final before coming up just short against Sheffield Wednesday.
Peterborough, Lincoln and Blackpool are also predicted to make the play-offs, with Rotherham and Wigan just missing out.
At the other end of the table, Burton are predicted to have a tough campaign despite bringing in a new manager in Mark Robinson and a number of new players following their takeover by a Scandinavian consortium.
Mansfield and Crawley are tipped to struggle following promotion from League Two, although Stockport and Wrexham are expected to beat the drop.
