Wanderers drawn away at Shrewsbury in Carabao Cup second round 18422529

Wanderers have been drawn away at League One rivals Shrewsbury in the Carabao Cup second round.

Ian Evatt’s men ensured they will be in the hat, beating Mansfield Town on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

George Thomason’s moment of magic appeared to have put the Whites on track for victory but Davis Keillor-Dunn got the visitors back on level terms eight minutes from time.

Luke Southwood was the hero in the shoot-out on his full debut, denying Aaron Lewis and Will Swan from 12 yards.

The Whites won 2-0 on their last trip to Croud Meadow last November thanks to goals from Paris Maghoma and Aaron Morley.

Second-round fixtures will take place in the week commencing Monday, August 26 – between the trip to Charlton and the home game against Exeter.

The competition remains regionalised at this stage and matches will again go straight to penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes.

This season, every Carabao Cup tie is being broadcast live on Sky Sports + for viewers in the UK as part of a record new rights deal.
