Victor Adeboyejo side-lined by a sneeze! 18501398

Wanderers striker Victor Adeboyejo has been put out of action after a violent SNEEZE.

The striker had been due to take part in Tuesday night’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy group game at Barrow on Tuesday but pulled out of the squad after suffering discomfort in his ribcage and back.

Ian Evatt – who was missing several first team players in Cumbria for injury and international reasons – revealed the bizarre reason for Adeboyejo’s absence after the final whistle.

“Victor has been suffering with a nasty back injury and a sneeze set it off yesterday (Monday) believe it or not,” he told The Bolton News.

“We have had it scanned and should have the results very soon, everyone remembers the challenge at Charlton, he was okay at the time. But then he had a pretty hefty sneeze – now Victor is a powerful boy and even his sneezes are powerful.

“He felt a bit of a crack in between his ribs and we are hopeful it is just a cartilage or muscular issue but until we had a good look at the scan we won’t know.”

With Josh Sheehan, Dion Charles, Luke Southwood and Chris Forino on international duty and Gethin Jones, Randell Williams, Eoin Toal, Carlos Mendes Gomes, Joel Coleman, Will Forrester, Klaidi Lolos and Scott Arfield all sidelined by injury, Bolton effectively picked their last available senior 11 in midweek, carving out a 3-2 win.

Reflecting on his bad luck with injuries – which have included Forrester dislocating and fracturing his toes after slipping on some stairs and Williams tearing a muscle in his foot the day before the play-off final in May, Evatt admitted Adeboyejo’s recent absence was par for the course.

“I have to start having a long look at myself when players start getting injured sneezing,” he smiled. “That is just the way things seem to be going at the moment, but we have to deal with it.”

Adeboyejo had been subject to heavy speculation in the build-up to transfer deadline day with Championship sides Plymouth Argyle and Oxford United and Turkish club Goztepe all making enquiries, and a seven-figure bid turned down in the final week of the window.

The 26-year-old had enjoyed an impressive pre-season run and scored against Leyton Orient on the opening day but has started just one of four games so far.

As the Turkish window does not close until September 13, there could yet be time for Wanderers’ grip on the Nigerian-born forward to be further tested. But Evatt remains confident that Adeboyejo will remain his player.

“Victor will be going nowhere, absolutely nowhere,” he assured.

Wanderers have left one outfield spot in the squad list they submitted to the EFL and intend to pursue the signing of a free agent in the coming days.

The club has also confirmed that their Carabao Cup third round game at Arsenal will take place on Wednesday, September 25 (7.45pm).

The Bristol Street Motors Trophy group game against Aston Villa previously billed for September 24 has now been moved to Tuesday, October 8, kick off time and ticket prices to be announced as soon as possible.
