Rammy, you mention the NHS computer farce. This sort of waste is happening all over the place, but bear in mind who this money is going to. its not the Civil Servants. After the labour government started pushing PFI, control of the money spent started to shift away from the public sector. You will now find that nearly all government departments have a high number of contractors, (all working on at least twice the wages of the public servant), who charge ridiculous amounts for failed and wasted projects. The contractors often blame the government for changing their minds as to what they want, but this is sometimes down to the spiralling cost of the project, brought on by the contracted company, who haven't captured the full or correct requirements in the first place. Unfortuantely, both the last, and this, government allow this practice to go on, each claiming that they are using and supporting the private sector. The public sector didn't have a scooby about how to deal in the commercial world, but they're are learning very quickly. The point is, the high costs of failed projects are due to the incompetence of the governement departments to control their own contractors, and the contractors greed.
