Remember The Aquarius, lived quite near it for a time.

Seen some decent acts there.

Cheers Sluffy. I remember the inside was like a palace. (might not have been, I was only 12!) The groups started using it as a venue, and I remember my dad saying that Dusty Springfield was really foul-mouthed. Strange the things you remember.

Croal, Can you remember the name of the head doorman at the Aquarius ? He looked like he needed bolts in his neck. Manning used to take the mickey out of him whenever he performed there.

No, always kept a wide berth from Doorman.

Manning used to take the mickey out of anybody, one thing i learned was to never get up and catch his eye while he was on stage.

Croal, did you ever come across a character called Baz Winnard ? He was the head doorman at the Aquarius. He finished up running a pub on Deane Road, the Gilnow Arms. His son James is a cage fighter.

The head doorman at Pips was a black dude called Oliver Brady. He also ran the Ebony Club at lunchtime.

I've heard those names before, where was the Ebony Club?

The reason i'm asking is because the one i knew was on Folds rd in the 60s.

Banksy, thanks for that mate. Good to know my memory isn't failing more than usual. I'm thinking that were looking at 1963/4 here, (although my head tells me 64/65), as we left Bolton at that time. Looked at the singers, and saw big Dee Irwin, which reminded me of his song, 'Would you like to swing on a star ? ( I think), and it was absolute shite Very Happy
