We need to put pressure on Cahill, their obvious weak link.

Ian Greaves signed Cantello. It was his only bad signing IMO.

Poor Dave Clement was piss poor for us too, imo.

OK I'll bite.
We paid too much for him, built him up to be a striker and we were all disappointed that he didn't score a shedload of goals. Suspect Megson thought he was going to make the transition that Thierry Henri made from winger to striker, but it was always a hope rather than a practicality. Despite all the hype he was given, Elmander did exactly what he's always done - worked his nuts off in midfield/wide and not given the ball away too easily. If we were a better team he might have had more opportunity to get forward and score more goals, but we're not and well done to him for putting the defensive shift in week in week out.
If we'd paid £5million for him to be a progressive midfielder, everybody would have said what a bargain he was.
Can't blame Elmander for the silly fee or the hype.
Do we miss him? I'd say yes given that we're playing that lazy arse Petrov wide left at the moment.

There may be some truth to what you say but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD a professional footballer should be able to side foot a ball into an empty net from 6 yards out whether he's a striker or a bloody goalkeeper.
I don't care how much effort someone puts in, if they can't do the basics they shouldn't be on the pitch.

No need to get all religious about it Tasha. Just saying that overall, Elmander's performances were better than most of the midfielders we've had of late - it's just that as a result of the fee and the hype, Elmander wasn't judged as a mid-price midfielder.

He was happy enough to take the fat signing on fee so I'm going to judge him as an £8m striker.

I think £8m is a Megsonism.
The figure on TransferMarkt is £11,088,000.

My opinion on Elmander, is he ranks as one of our worst buys ever.
Might have scored a few last Season, but he had more bad games than good. While he was at Bolton.
He was the main reason i joined a Bolton message board, so i could air my views, on the Stump.

I can't help but think that Elmander was never used properley. I always thought he was either out of position, or used as a prop for Davies. Even so, we certainly didn't see his best, and for that money you would have expected much more. I don't dislike the guy, as he always put in a fair bit of work, which we cant say of many of today's team.
