Wanderers were promoted to the Premier league for the first time, as they came from 2 goals down to beat Reading in the playoffs in one of the greatest games I have seen as a Bolton fan.

One of the best days of my life.
I've never celebrated a goal as much as when De Freitas equalised.
Great times.

That game put me through the emotional mangle.
Goes to show that if you have confidence in your team, no situation is worth despairing about.

It was an amazing day, i remember thinking when Branagan saved the penalty it could all change and swing our way. It certainley made up for the disappointment of losing the league cup final (what was it called then - Coca Cola?) a few months before.

A truly amazing game. Branagan's penalty save was absolutely crucial. 2-0 down so early in the game I really thought it was all over when the penalty was awarded.
As has already been said a real emotional roller coaster. I can't think of any other game to match it.

Emotional roller coaster 2-0 down then McAteer brings down a Reading player.Up steps Stuart loveock(now his name )was somet like that 3-0 and we would have been buried in the water. But he missed Branagan save probably one of the most important saves in Bolton Wanderers history.I remember late in too the match and super John crossed right for Coyle to head in 2-1 then with minutes left De Freitas curled it past the keeper 2-2 Reading looked dead on their feet.Wanderers looked like they had had a shot of super power.Patalainen 3-2 Fab 4-2 the celebrations started Reading looked like they were running with sandbags on their backs there player manager hit a volley in to make it 4-3 but time was up.It took a week for my voice to recover. What a day greatest day watching Wanderers ever.Emotionally draining but fantastic cant believe it was 18 years ago.If we had not gone up i wonder if the financial backing for the Reebok would have still been there.Anyway as a small club in comparison to the Chelsea,Arsenal's of the world days like that you cherish forever.

If we hadn't gone up things would probably look a lot rosier on the financial front right now.
Rioch out.

Totally agree. If that had gone it it would have been curtains, still left it late though, typical. Best game ever.
