The guy has really gone up in my estimation since losing last year and winning this years Wimbledon, seems like a top bloke even if he does come across a bit miserable at times.
He seems a different player since Lendl sorted his head out for him. Knighthoods are handed out like sweeties these days and as several posters point out, it's a political move to get reflected glory.
Fred Perry wasn't knighted and he won Wimbledon 3 years in a row, 8 grand slams overall. That may be because he was a working class lad from Stockport and the LTA - and the national press- looked down on him (to the extent that he moved to the States and became a US citizen and eventually died in Australia) The only recognition he got was a statue outside Wimbledon and that wasn't erected until the 1980s.
Murray's achievements hardly warrant a knighthood.
