I only found that out about 20 years ago. Driving home from work, going up Bury Road (near the junction with Radcliffe Moor Road) a cat came running out of a roadside bush straight in front of me. I slammed my brakes but it was too late and felt the car go over it. I phoned the RSPCA and its them who told me not to worry as its non-reportable accident. Not to worry, blimey I had nightmares for the next couple of nights of the poor feline. Sad

Were you on your way to the Freemasons Hall at the junction of Bury Road and Radcliffe Moor Road at the time ?

Was going home, as at that time we lived at Bradley Fold.

As you don't know Bolton I will describe it....

A 4 bed detached house with a garage and a conservatory (one of teh bedrooms was converted into an office) and a laundry room. Less than 3 minutes walk from the Queens pub and less than 10 minutes from the Sparkling Clog (or known as Sparking Plug on Peter Kay's Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere)

Slightly off topic but on the subject of road accidents. About twenty years ago I was driving home through the leafy Cheshire suburb of Partington. In the distance I saw a little old lady walking a scabby mongrel on a lead. Just as I drew level with them, the dog pulled away from the old dear and ran across the road in front of me. I braked but it was too late and I ended uprunning over the dog. The dog was called Lucky.

I got out and saw that Lucky was unconscious and in a bad way. It was convulsing and covered in blood. The old lady was in a right state and I asked her if she wanted me to go to a phone box and contact an emergency vet to come and put it down. I explained that she would have to pay the vets call-out charge but she said she couldn't afford it.

I asked her if she wanted me to put it out of its misery and she agreed saying that she didn't want it to suffer.

I then took the wheelbrace from my boot and while her back was turned I hit Lucky as hard as I could on the top of its head. It suddenly went limp and I then offered to take the old dear and her former pet home. She explained that she only lived across the road and that she would carry Lucky home and her husband would bury it in the garden the next morning.

Imagine my surprise when driving through the village a week later and I saw the old dear walking Lucky, who had a bloody big bandage on his head!

Should have been re-named Lazarus.

..or she bought an identical replacement so as not to upset the kids/hubby.

Funny. A horse curls one out, Nat, and you describe as the "icing on the cake"...

Used to own Horses/Ponies, always used to worry when my daughter went on the road, nowadays she occasionally rides out for the more timid rider.

Remember when she was younger, out on the fields with this Pony we had at the time, it threw her off and Galloped off, ran on the main road and crashed into a old couples brand new car. Thank god she was insured (silly Mare).

One thing i found out about Horses is they're f'king unpredictable and expensive... but we had some great times.
