Dougie Freedman is pondering over a goalkeeping gamble ahead of this weekend’s showdown with Ipswich Town.
After losing Adam Bogdan to a knee injury on Tuesday it was confirmed yesterday by the club that back-up Jay Lynch will not be fit for Saturday’s game at the Reebok.
That leaves Andy Lonergan as the only senior option available to Freedman unless he makes an emergency move into the loan market between now and Friday afternoon.
It has emerged that Lynch suffered a back strain last week and will be out of action for around a month, leaving 17-year-old Harry Campbell – who only made his debut for the development squad against Blackpool on Tuesday – as the next keeper in line.
Darwen-based Campbell, pictured, has been with the club for nearly two years after leaving Blackburn Rovers in 2012. But his complete lack of senior experience could convince Freedman to seek a temporary fix and bring in cover from elsewhere until Bogdan recovers.
He sprained his knee and could return in just three weeks if all goes well in his recovery and the injury does not flare up again.
The other option for Freedman would be to go without a substitute keeper on the bench.
