Bolton has failed in it's bid to become a city........again, surprise surprise.

Chelmsford, Perth and St Asaph, have been given city status to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the government said today.

Bolton had faced competition from Stockport, Reading, St Austell in Cornwall and Medway in Kent, among others.

Mr Clegg said "I hope the competition has given the residents of all of the places which applied a sense of civic pride, of collective ownership and of community spirit."

Could have saved a lot of time if the people putting this bid in had actually looked at bolton town centre first before submitting the bid, bolton town centre has gone so poor in recent years it's just a ghost town now a days.

Perth is a fcuking dump. How that was deemed worth i have no idea.

It would have been a real piss take if Stockport had got it though.

I've never been but if it's that bad then it shows you how bad bolton is.

We try and get this city status everytime the opportunity comes around, why we keep persisiting with it I will never know.

It's the service station of scotland between Edinburgh and the Highlands.

Consider this, as the Royal bods.... would you create yet another city in the North West of England and thus create a situation where from Manchester to Preston each borough inbetween would be cities!!!

Also would they consider a town which supported the Parliamentarians and not the Royalists during the civil war?



Until the change the system from Royal Decree to the population size we will never become a city.



Just a waste of the publics money trying to become a city every time.... That money should be spent on creating a better town, than what we have now.
