I had two. The first one I had was a Grey Ford Cortina L Mk3 which I passed my driving test in back in 1978. I then drove a Red Ford Capri 1600. It reminded me of Starsky and Hutch! In 1982 I bought a Chrysler Avenger 1600 which was a total heap of shite so I sold it and bought a Brown Ford Cortina MK4 1600 S reg plate and it was a great car.
I think the Cortina range was a damn good car.

Never keen on Fords tbh and never owned one. However my uncle had a browny/mink coloured 1600E mk2 and I thought that was a great looking car.
I had a 1600 Avenger at one point and every time I changed a bulb in the rear cluster I had to re earth it!! I'm sure those cars were dipped in salt water for six months prior to spraying?

They should never have changed the name like the Transit. I had a red Capri RT but it was a 2.8 injection utter nutter barsted and funnily enough like you I had a white MK4 S Reg drove from Salford to Canterbury and back in one day, would not be able to do that now.Reebok Trotter wrote:I had two. I think I just gravitated towards Fords because my father swore by them. He had a Ford Anglia and then a Taunus and then a Capri. I never had any mechanical problems with any of the Fords I drove and parts and servicing were quite cheap.
I gravitated towards the Japanese car market because with the Japs all the extras tended to come as standard whereas with Ford you had to pay more for all the extras.
I had a little Austin Healey Sprite 1275cc for a short while as well but it wasn't a very comfortable drive. Much too low to the ground and freezing in winter.
SK, I had nowt but trouble with the Avenger. New gearbox, new clutch, constantly having fuses blowing. I was glad to be shut of it.

My brother used to have an Avenger van for his work. he thought it was great fun pulling the gear stick right out of the gearbox while he was driving along, just to show what a crap car it was. fortunately it used to go back just as easily.

No such thing as a mk5 CD that was what the public called it wrongly,it was actually officially called the cortina 80 by ford and was a MK 4 facelift.Copper Dragon wrote:A Mk5 Angry.Angry Dad wrote:What mk CDCopper Dragon wrote:I've had a Cortina, a red one.

Don't know the exact model, but when I had a Lambretta GT200, and lived in London, I always raced away from the lights, rarely being beaten to it. However, And I'll remember for the rest of my life, a Cortina Savage 1600 (Mk2, with the flatish front end ?), took off next to me, and left me for standing. Sounded good as well. About 1968, 45 years ago, but I still remember it.
