Although pleased at the way in which Wanderers fought back to secure a point against Middlesbrough on New Year’s Day, Chris Eagles admitted his disappointment that he couldn’t mark his 100th appearance for the club with a victory.

With David Ngog’s 90th minute leveller earning the Whites a share of the spoils against the Riverside outfit, the winger explained his frustration at how close Wanderers are to finding that winning formula on a consistent basis.

“We have shown we can come back and pick up results but we conceded two sloppy goals early on against Middlesbrough which didn’t get us off to a great start to the game,” he said following the final whistle on Wednesday afternoon.

“We are disappointed to only come away with a draw due to the amount of chances we created - we went out to collect all three.

“Middlesbrough didn’t create many opportunities that troubled us. It is through our own making why we conceded two goals and we can’t keep doing it. If we hadn't made those two mistakes we would have won the game 2-0.”

He added: “We are playing good football and it is good for the crowd because they are on the edge of their seats. In the first half we attacked Middlesbrough very well and we felt confident going into the second half.”

The 28-year-old, who completed his first full 90 minutes since the end of September, admitted that although the team were disappointed to have not taken all three points against Middlesbrough, they are determined to secure their first victory of the calendar year against Blackpool in this weekend’s FA Cup clash.

“I was pleased to play and complete the game against Middlesbrough and we are all confident heading into Saturday’s game against Blackpool.

“Every game is a different type of task but we have to make sure moving forward that we knock out the mistakes we are making.”
