I had my wisdom teeth taken out last year and the anaesthetist with a unique sense of humour was cracking jokes all day about me fighting in the lion's den. It took a while for me to realise he was referring to the fact that my name is Daniel.
I don't know the full story but it sounds like a good one to get your name from - a man taking on a set of lions and that.
It was the most popular name in my year at primary and secondary school, which was a shame, but I still like it.

Do you like your name or do you hate your parents for giving it to you?

I'm sure no one has guessed it, but my given name is Kevin - incredibly popular name. I blame my parents for giving me the name because since I'm one helluva nice guy, people decided to name their sons after me. I earned the moniker 'Keegan' on the football pitch for my lack of footballing ability. (Oh, the irony)

I like my name, one of the cooler names out there I think. I hate being called Tash or Tasha though.

Only you Nats, only you I love you

I actually know someone with the name of Anastacia. Few people call her Ana and she hates it as she prefers Stacia.

I killed my parents for giving me the name Shirley.

It wasn't until I got released from prison that I changed my name to Cecil.

Names come and go. I was born in the 50s and there were very few people with my name, but now it's as common as muck - I was in a meeting a month or so ago where all the males had the same name.
I'm just glad that I wasn't born these days when British parents tend to hand out Americanised/pop star names some of which just make me cringe. There was a Lurlene in the press recently - presumably taken from the Simpsons.
The 90's were awful too when pretentious parents went for shit like India, Air, Peace etc - you know what I'm talking about.
But the funniest one I heard was Gooey. A friend was teaching in Liverpool and had a kid in her class called Gooey. Everyone called the kid Gooey. On parents evening she asked them where they got the name from and they said it was "in a book". Only later did she realise that the parents had read "Guy" but as a result of dodgy scouse pronunciation and unquestioning friends and family, the kid was dubbed Gooey.
That and Chesney which for some reason always makes me wince out of sympathy.

My mother tells a similar story to the Gooey one.

In the 1960s she knew a couple who had moved to Salford from somewhere in Yorkshire and they had thick Yorkshire accents.

Anyway they had a baby girl, and decided to call the girl 'Anne'.

The wife sent the husband to register the birth. He'd had a few drinks.

When he got there he told the registrar the baby's name was Anne. The conversation went like this:

- "They baby's name is Anne"
- "With an 'E'?"
- "Aye, n 'E'."

And the baby was mistakenly registered and legally named Annie as a result.

Ledley King always gets me. He should have been christened Lesley but his father had a heavy cold.

My lad is called Liam and when he was born, the woman in the next bed had a little girl and she called her Sunny Devon.

I feel sorry for the Geldof clan, Peaches, Fifi Trixibelle and Pixie ffs.
