Matt Mills admits Wanderers’ season now boils down to finishing above three other teams.

Dougie Freedman’s side remain six points clear of the relegation zone after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Millwall.

All three clubs currently in the bottom three also have games in hand but Mills is confident Wanderers can pull well clear of trouble.

“It’s about 15 games for us now, that’s our season,” he said. “What has gone, we need to put well behind us.

“The league table doesn’t lie and at this stage of the season it’s about being better than three teams below you.

“We’re looking at that 15-game season and I think we’re more than capable of finishing in the top half of that.”

Lukas Jutkiewicz put Wanderers ahead at the Den before missing a late penalty. Martyn Woolford then equalised for the Lions in what proved to be a dramatic end to the game.

“We tried to dig in and then one little lapse in concentration cost us,” Mills said. “That is where we are at just now. We need to dust ourselves off and go again.

“It was a similar case to the Burnley game, we give away one chance and they take it. “It is quite frustrating because I think our actual game is going quite well.

“These are the times when you have got to stay mentally strong and not beat yourself up.”

Mills also had praise for new defensive partner David Wheater, who has returned from an operation on his knee to put in two encouraging performance alongside him at the heart of the defence.

“He’s done well,” Mills said. “He’s struggled with his knee but it looks as if that last operation really, really helped him.

“He’s looked a completely different player in my opinion since he came back, so credit to him.”
