We fancy a trip to Dubai for the new year, has anybody been? And if so, can you recommend a nice hotel, which isn't too expensive (1k max each) we would ideally like a hotel that is near to the main attractions and isn't too far away from Jumeirah Beach.

Thanks!  Very Happy

Never fancied it, if I'm honest.

And this may sound racist, but hey ho.....the only people that I know of who go there for their holidays are Pakistani muslims, so I doubt I'd enjoy it much.

My sister did a secondment there last year so we went over for a week, it was okay but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. It's essentially like going to one big shopping centre in any Western City in the world but with ridiculously good weather, no culture, no history, man made beaches and everything looks plastic.

It was a chilled out week but I wouldn't go back.

Fuerteventura can be nice and warm in January. I would recommend the Jandia Princess in Jandia. Half board will give you plenty of change for your £1,000 and not a whiff of Egyptian cotton or a Turban in sight.

I have visited Dubai but only because my wife's nephew lives there and we were able to stop over on a flight back from New Zealand at no extra cost.

There are spectacular buildings and incredibly large shopping malls. There is a little history in the old town. Overall an interesting experience but not one I have any desire to repeat.

Visited friends in Abu Dhabi, and spent a couple of nights in Dubai. Preferred Abu Dhabi to Dubai.
