Wanderers made it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in 12 years with a 2-1 home win against Brighton at Burnden Park in January 1992.
But it was far from straightforward for Phil Neal’s men who needed an ice-cool penalty from Tony Philliskirk with 19 minutes to go to secure their progress.
Wanderers broke the deadlock on 51 minutes when Andy Walker netted his third goal in four outings. Philliskirk back-headed Scott Green’s throw and Walker tucked the ball away past Mark Beeney at his near post.
The lead lasted just four minutes, however, when the Whites let Raphael Meade race away to equalise with Albion’s only shot on target after an untimely collision between Mark Came and Bryan Wade.
However, an inexplicable handball by Seagulls defender Paul McCarthy conceded the penalty. The youngster stuck out a left arm to intercept Mark Patterson’s harmless-looking lobbed pass.
After Julian Darby’s customary touch of the ball for good luck, Philliskirk stepped up to slot home his 18th goal of the campaign.
