Stuart Holden has vowed to “get it right” as he battles back from injury to save his Wanderers career.
The US international has endured three years of misery on the sidelines and is currently recovering from a second successive torn cruciate ligament.
Many fear another injury blow could spell the end of the road for the popular 28-year-old, who has played just one full game for the Whites since March 2011.
But Holden is determined to beat the odds and return to being a regular in the Wanderers midfield next season.
Speaking back home in the States, Holden confirmed the club would be standing by him despite his contract expiring this summer.
“I’m going to get it right this time,” he said.
“I’m fully confident I can still get through this and get back on the field, not only to play a role for my club at Bolton but for the national team as well. My contract finishes in July but credit to the club.
“I feel grateful they’ve stuck by me and the coach has been fantastic.
“We have spoken a few times and he’s said that if I’m going to give this a go then they’re going to be there with me.
“That gives me the confidence in my training and everything I’m doing to get healthy, knowing someone believes in me that much and I don't want to let them down.
"(We're looking at) probably just after pre-season. With this being my second ACL tear - it's not uncommon, it's definitely not unheard of and it's been done many times before - I want to make sure I take my time and give my knee the time it needs to fully recover and make sure that when I'm back out there playing, I'm not just 99 per cent or 100 per cent.
“I want to be even better than that.”
