Club statement

Bolton Wanderers Football Club wishes to express its disappointment and concern regarding an article published in The Bolton News on Wednesday 23 April in which it is alleged that the club paid a substantial fine to HMRC after wrongly reclaiming VAT.
 
This is categorically not the case as no fine was threatened or imposed on the club by HMRC. A payment was made pursuant to a commercial settlement reached with HMRC as the result of a football industry-wide enquiry into the tax treatment of agents' fees involving all Premier League clubs.

Our legal advisers have notified The Bolton News of the club's dissatisfaction with the misleading and inflammatory way in which this point has been reported. We note that The Bolton News has belatedly corrected its online publication of this story.
 
The club will be making no further comment at this time.

Follow up club statement regarding articles printed in The Bolton News on Wednesday 23 April

The chairman of Bolton Wanderers has demanded an apology and corrections from The Bolton News for its misleading and inaccurate reports published on Wednesday 23 April, in particular with regard to a commercial settlement reached with HMRC regarding the tax treatment of agents fees and appointment of Mark Curtis in respect of the recruitment of Gary Megson.

Bolton Wanderers has reserved its right to take any further legal action against The Bolton News.

Sounds like the club are digging in. The BN has always written a fair bit of bollocks about the club but to date it seemed like the relationship has been amicable - wonder if that's about to come to an end? Shame if it did because they need each other.

No smoke without fire and we all know how honest certain club officials have been in the past, Time to rid the club of it's cancer's!

Even though the BN are in the wrong here, the club are taking all the heat from the fans, which shouldn't really surprise anyone.

So not only has that fat fuck Darkside alienated BWFC supporters, he is now trying to alienate the local press, he's a wanker of the highest order!!!!!!!

True, but when they're getting all legal on the BNs ass it does imply they feel they have a case.
