Dougie Freedman admits his young winger Rob Hall showed his immature side in collecting a straight red card in Wanderers’ first pre-season friendly against Brondby.
The 20-year-old put a slight dampener on an encouraging 1-1 draw after being sent off in the 89th minute for a reckless challenge on Dario Dumic.
Freedman had no complaints with the referee’s decision – but told Hall not to lose the competitive edge to his game.
“I think he showed a little bit of immaturity there,” he told The Bolton News. “He told me that he’d got a kick a few moments before so he reacted. He held his hands up to me.
“It’s a shame because he’d started very strongly and got right at their back four. He’s looked really strong this summer.
“It’s something he needs to learn from but I’ve told all my players that I want them to live on the edge. I want them to show desire and hunger – and yes, sometimes that goes over the top – but it needs to be there.”
