Wanderers will make a final decision on the future of defender Liam Fontaine on Monday.
The former Bristol City defender, pictured below, has been training with the club and was down to feature in the development squad game at Wrexham last night.
A permanent deal remains unlikely but Dougie Freedman wants to wait until after the weekend to make up his mind.
“We’ll talk on Monday and decide what we’re going to do,” he said.
Modou Barrow, the Gambian striker who trained with Wanderers on tour in Sweden also set tongues wagging yesterday after tweeting he was hoping to sign a deal.
Freedman admits he has considered a move for the 21-year-old but has ruled out a move at the moment.
“We looked at him strongly over in Sweden but at that particular time the fee was far, far too high, so we couldn’t pursue it,” he said.
“That price is coming down but not as far as we’d like it. It isn’t going to happen.”
Freedman is still hopeful he can bring someone in before next weekend’s big kick-off against Watford but admits to a degree of frustration as he waits for clubs to decide on whether to loan out their players.
Joe Mason is pencilled in to come in from Cardiff City but must first sign a new contract with the South Wales club.
“Cash is king. In our position we need to be shrewd and wait for a couple of other managers to move their players around,” Freedman reasoned. “At that point it’ll be the right price and the right time for us. I could go out and sign three players tomorrow morning but that has never been my style. I don’t do short-term solutions.
“I am patient. I was patient with Craig Dawson, I was patient with Lukas Jutkiewicz and I’m being patient with Joe Mason – I think that’s the way to be.”
