You know the young guys who featured at the end of last season... I expected to see them feature in Sundays friendly... But we only made two subs despite getting hammered...

So, where are those kids?

I seem to remember one had a very solid game in defence and a couple of others lit up the stadium with dazzling attacking play...

They got their butts handed to them in friendlies (Melbourne City for example) and will have to play Development/Reserve footy for another year.

Threlkeld has been pushed back to the bench by the arrival of McNaughton. Those that didn't hack it in the pre-season trials have either been sent on loan to improve, moved on if it was thought they'd never make it or are hanging out with first team squad trying to earn a place.
I reckon 3 possibly 4 will play some first X1 footie this season even if it's just cup matches or coming off the bench.

Dougie likes to champion the fact he is some kind of Dario Gradi when it comes to young players, the truth is the exact opposite. He'll play youngsters when there is nothing to play for. So expect them around April when we've cemented 16th place.
