Chris Eagles hasn’t landed anywhere other than a boxing gym since being booted out of Bolton’s at the end of last season.
But the former United and Wanderers winger is ready to rise again thanks to the help of one of Manchester’s best known fight centres.
Eagles has been working out at the Champs Camp gym in Moss Side under the watchful supervision of Maurice Core and Ensley Bingham.
And with a possible reunion with manager Owen Coyle on the cards, the 28-year-old is desperate to get his football career on side again.
“I can’t thank them enough for what they have done,” said Eagles of the Champs Camp crew. “I feel really great at the moment, it has been a supportive environment, and I’m ready to go again now.
“I’ve been up at 6.30 every morning working with some really great people like Ben Fanning (strength and conditioning coach), Ensley and Maurice who have really helped me a lot.”
Eagles was Wanderers’ top scorer in 2012/2013 – the only player to reach double figures. He was singled out for praise by Dougie Freedman after the ex-Crystal Palace boss replaced Coyle at Bolton in October 2012.
But last season was one of frustration as injury and loss of form took its toll. His last game for the Trotters was a 1-1 draw against Millwall on February 15 and he managed just one goal all season.
His once excellent relationship with Freedman appeared to sour and – as one of the club’s high-end wage earners – he wasn’t offered new terms.
Despite summer rumours of potential new clubs, he remained out of work. However, with Coyle – his former boss at Burnley as well as Bolton – tipped to take over at Blackpool, Eagles could soon be flying high again.
“I’ve had a few options,” he said.
“It’s a new chapter for me now, so I’m just looking forward.”
