Dean Moxey says Wanderers fans are yet to see him at his best this season.
The former Crystal Palace defender was drafted in by his former Eagles boss Dougie Freedman in the summer to solve the Whites’ left-back quandary with Marc Tierney still not back after a year out with a broken foot.
But a cruel twist of fate saw Moxey himself get injured on the opening day at Watford.
The 28-year-old has now had three games back in the side after a month out with a bruised foot, though, and is ready to kick-start his Wanderers career.
He told The Bolton News: “Getting injured in the first game of the season wasn’t ideal for me.
“It’s been a long road back.
“It has been frustrating because I wanted to come here and play some good football. I was told the injury would be two weeks but it was a niggly one and I couldn’t put any pressure on it.
“Bolton fans haven’t seen the best of me.”
Moxey is keen to make up for lost time and hopes tonight’s glamour Capital One Cup clash at Premier League leaders Chelsea will be a platform for both him and the team to forget their Championship struggles.
The Exeter-born defender was part of Freedman’s Palace side that reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2012 and played in their famous 2-1 quarter-final triumph at Manchester United.
A victory for Wanderers at Stamford Bridge would be as big an upset, but Moxey, who will be facing Chelsea for the first time in his career, admits challenges do not come much tougher at present, whichever side Blues boss Jose Mourinho picks.
Moxey added: “We are playing against one of the best teams in the country and in Europe so it is a great place to go and play football.
"Hopefully we can get the win and take it on to the weekend.
“We want to do better in the league because our wins have come in the cup, albeit against lower-league teams.
“A win is a win.
“No one gives us a chance (against Chelsea) so hopefully we can go there, put on a show and maybe get a result.”
