Wanderers’ youngsters slipped to an unfortunate 1-0 defeat against their Stoke City counterparts on Saturday.

In a closely fought encounter, the Whites hit the post and forced the Potters’ goalkeeper into a number of smart saves during the first period of the game, but the visitors were to break the deadlock against the run of play with 20 minutes remaining with a deflected effort in the six yard box.

Wanderers did push for an equalising goal inside the final stages of the clash and came close to pulling themselves level on a handful of occasions, but it wasn’t to be the youngsters’ day as Stoke held out for the victory.

Speaking following the final whistle, head coach David Lee admitted that while he couldn’t have asked much more of his team on the day, he will be looking for an immediate response from his side in their next league encounter.

“It was a very close game – there was literally nothing between the two sides,” said Lee. “It was a disappointing goal to concede, but we ourselves just needed to produce a bit more quality in front of goal.

“We enjoyed some excellent phases of play throughout the game, and we can count ourselves very unlucky to leave the game empty handed.

“Overall, it was a hard working performance which was ultimately just lacking a goal on our part, but we’ll be looking to eradicate that against Everton next weekend.”
