Why did we only get £7m for Gary Cahill? That’s because nobody tried to buy him for any more than that.

It's quotes like that that make me have sympathy. The club have been slated for letting Elmander go for nothing and only getting £7m for Cahill.

Perhaps he should have been asked e.g. "If you only got offered £7 million for Gary Cahill, why didn't you keep him? - we might still be in the premiership."

Answer: Cahill was in the last year of his deal, had no intention of signing a new one and would have walked for nothing in the summer after half a season of being unhappy at a club he no longer wanted to play for so we might NOT have still been in the Premiership anyway and would have had 7 million quid less in the bank.
