Iain Brunskill became the latest addition to Neil Lennon’s coaching set-up at Macron Stadium when he was appointed as the club’s new development coach, tasked with overseeing Bolton Wanderers’ under-21 and development squad.
Boasting a coaching career that spans over the past 16 years, the 37-year-old had been working for The Football Association before linking up with the Whites, having previously worked for Liverpool FC, Blackburn Rovers and, most recently, Maltese side Floriana FC.
A former player, Iain came through the ranks at Liverpool. He would sign for Bury in 1996, before returning to Anfield as assistant academy technical director in March 1998. His coaching duties coincided with a non-league career courtesy of stints with Leek, Hednesford and Runcorn.
Iain left Liverpool to become reserve team manager at Blackburn Rovers in August 2008 following Paul Ince’s arrival as manager at Ewood Park.
Having retained the position under former Trotters manager Sam Allardyce, Iain was promoted to first team coach following Steve Kean’s appointment as Blackburn manager in December 2010, having recently gained his UEFA Pro License.
Leaving Ewood Park after the departure of Kean’s successor Henning Berg in December 2012, Iain soon took up his first role in senior management as he joined Maltese side Floriana FC as their new head coach on a short-term contract the following month.
Taking charge of the club following the Maltese Premier League’s promotion/relegation split, Iain oversaw ten matches during his five months with the club. In that time Floriana won nine and drew one as they finished top of the Relegation group, comfortably securing their safety in the process.
Returning to England in June 2013, Iain started working for the FA, joining their coach development department as youth coach educator.
Now returning to club coaching, Iain will take charge of Wanderers under-21s as they compete in the Barclays U21 Premier League Division 2 as well as for all cup fixtures.
