Trouble is he might not be as good as he was, although he wants to hop back into the Iceland team. Could do something as a super sub on a pay per play basis. Nice to see him back, even training as some of his eagerness could just rub off, down Natasha, on the younger players.  Cool

You never lose it, although he wouldn't be as physically fit so I wouldn't play him as striker or even attacking midfield.

I'd play him in a deep position like mavies played against Wigan, he'd be brilliant there.

I went off Eidur after he went to Chelsea. he got very arrogant, and was then involved in that unsavoury episode, when something happened, (cant remember the details now, but I know he was very disrespectful to somebody/something)). Soon after that his career went downhill. I don't see how he can help us to be honest.

....which nobody has ever seen, unsurprisingly. Still we can pretend if it makes you feel better. And you do need to cheer up as you've been a ratty sod all day.

Eidur has never had pace, his speed was always between his ears, and a sublime pass!

I would prefer to keep the memories. I'm not a fan of ex-players returning to play again especially when they're so clearly past their prime. Eidur did a great job when he was here and I'd rather remember him for that time than watch him play as a shadow of his former self now.

However if he was interested in a coaching role then I'd say that's a no-brainer. He's got a brilliant football brain with tons of experience that could really help improve both strikers and midfielders here and I bet Neil's got half an eye on him for that already.

If Eidur was fit enough to keep up with the game - and at 36 he should be able to get there - his quality and coolness in front of goal would be an asset especially with Mavies and Chungy around him. I'd certainly have backed him to put away half the chances that Becks missed earlier this season and he always makes chances for others. Perhaps we shouldn't write off the possibility of him getting on the bench just yet? What a reception he'd get.

I completely agree. He may have lost a yard of pace (even though he was never the quickest anyway) but you never lose ability. He was a class act and I would still think he has it. More than good enough for this division I reckon.

Only on a pay for play basis .....  after a few games if he is not up to par then no harm done.

Door is still open for Eidur Gudjohnsen to return to Bolton Wanderers, says Neil Lennon

Neil Lennon has not ruled out the prospect of Eidur Gudjohnsen making a shock playing return at Wanderers.

The 36-year-old Icelander, currently a free agent, has been training with the first team at Euxton since the start of last week in an agreement orchestrated by former Whites skipper Gudni Bergsson.

Although it is not yet known whether a deal for the highly-decorated striker is within financial reach, Lennon has confirmed his arrival at the club – nearly 14 years since his last game for Bolton – has been with a view to earning a short-term contract.

It is understood a decision will be made by the end of the week but the Northern Irishman raised fans’ hopes with his comments in an interview with the BBC aired on Monday night.

“He was playing in Belgium up until the end of the season and we got a phone call from his agent, Gudni Bergsson, and he said Eidur has got the bit between his teeth, he wants to give it another go,” he said.

“Iceland are going well and he’d like the opportunity to play for them again.

“He asked us would we take him in and take a good look at him so that’s what we’re doing at the moment.

“He’s always been a class player. You don’t play for Barcelona for three or four seasons or Monaco without being a good player.”

Gudjohnsen played 73 times and scored 27 goals in his first spell at Wanderers between 1998 and 2000, the last of which was a play-off semi-final first leg against Ipswich Town.

He left Club Brugge in the summer but is keen to add to his 78 international caps with Iceland, who have made an encouraging start to the European Championship qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, Lennon has also intonated that he will have cash to spend in January if he needs it.

After taking four wins from his first six games in charge and leading Wanderers out of the relegation zone, there appears less of a need for sweeping changes on the playing front which looked necessary on his arrival a month ago.

“We’re talking about it a lot but at the moment I’m quite happy to work with the players I’ve got. Once you start talking chapters about bringing players in it spooks the players you currently have,” he said.

“I wanted to go in initially and see what we’ve got and then maybe look towards January. If there’s a player we can afford and we like, and then maybe bring them in.”

Unless Eidur wants silly money they should give him a pay-as-you-play deal, at the very least it will bring an even bigger buzz to the Macron - and let's be honest, could he do any worse than Beckford?

It'll be interesting to see if he's still got it.

On that basis we should be resigning Ian Marshall.

All of you are wrong. We should re-sign Gerald Cid as he's better than all of the names mentioned so far. Very Happy
