After last seasons mauling at the hands of this weekends opponents I thought it would be better to look back on a much more enjoyable match against the Royals. I can't believe this was almost 20 years ago now. Even though I was only a wee 11 year old at the time I remember it like it was yesterday. After trudging out onto Wembley way in tears a few months earlier after a 2-1 defeat to the scousers in the coca cola cup final I was desperate for a happy ending in this one. Then the first 20 minutes happened. When Reading got the penalty to potentially make it 3-0 and kill our dreams completely, Branny makes a game changing save and the rest, as they say, is history. The performances through the second half and extra time were immense and the drive and energy showed by mcateer was amazing to see after 57 games that season. Anyway, if you have the time to watch again give it a go. Always makes me smile watching the equaliser go in from de Freitas and some of the football played in the second half and extra time is a joy to watch and never gets old. Go on treat yourself, you know you want to............

me and the fam had practically a full row to ourselves at half time. so many people left and missed the game of our lives that day! i know it wasn't an fa cup final or anything but it is the game everyone still talks about in the modern era.

You're right, one of the best days ever supporting BWFC. The third goal is a truly magnificent team goal.

Definitely the most amazing Bolton game I have ever experienced. Two down after 12 minutes then we conceded a penalty and then we leave it until the 75th minute before getting our first goal!
Fond memories indeed.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!
Rioch must have fired one hell of a rocket up them at half time because they came out like a freight train in the second half. Lennon seems to have that effect as well.

This.
You could sense the change in the mood immediately and something just seemed to say "Yeah, were two down but we're going to have these now!"

I remember that feeling, it was a bit spooky like the wind changed direction or something.
