Matt Mills called for Wanderers to take confidence from their draw against Reading, with the defender believing that the team’s performance at the Madejski Stadium was at the very least worthy of the point they acquired.

Having become a father for the first time just 24 hours prior to Wanderers’ league clash with the Royals, Mills donned the captain’s armband in Berkshire as the Whites extended their unbeaten run to five courtesy of the stalemate with Nigel Adkins’ men.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk following the final whistle, the centre-half admitted that although he and his teammates were disappointed not to capitalise on their dominance in possession, the result was one which they can still take a number of positives from.

“I thought generally we did really well, but we just lacked that final product to kill them off,” said Mills. “I think the first half was probably one of the most one-sided halves we’ve played in.

“In the second half they responded which made it a bit more difficult, but we ground out and created a few chances.

“At the end of the day though, it’s a point away from home and we’ll take that if we can get the wins at home.”

He continued: “We’re five unbeaten now which is great and we want to keep that run going. We thought the win was there for us, but it’s a point on the board and it has us heading in the right direction.

“Confidence is high amongst the team at the moment and the identity of the side is strong and clear to see.

“Getting a clean sheet was also very pleasing – it’s something that we work on from front to back, because the pressure that the boys further up the field put on gives us the platform to be able to defend and we did that well against Reading.

“It will be tough against Ipswich next week, but the lads should take confidence from today’s performance, rest over the weekend and get ready for another hard week on the training pitch.”

BWFC Post Match Script

If we win: We deserved the three points, we're now full of confidence
If we draw: We deserved to win, a little bit more luck and we'd have won
If we lose: We deserved to win, but we will take the positives and can't wait for next game

Isn't that pretty much the stock answer for all teams?

It would ring more true if we had offered a goal threat, but having the bulk of midfield possession doesn't equate to deserving to win the match.

Finally realising that all football related press releases are bullshit? Every footballer uses the same stock answers in every interview they do, not worth listening to.
