Wanderers will make a late decision on whether to play Craig Davies in this weekend’s home clash with Ipswich Town.
Despite limping out of the 0-0 draw with Reading, damage to the striker’s hamstring is not thought to be serious.
But with a busy festive fixture list coming up, Neil Lennon is weighing up whether to rest the 28-year-old front man on Saturday and shuffle his pack in attack.
Davies has started the last five games in the Championship – his longest run of unbroken football since leaving Barnsley in 2012.
The Wales international began six games on the spin for the Tykes when Dougie Freedman paid £300,000 for his services in the January transfer window of 2013.
He managed four starts in a row whilst on loan for Preston North End but Wanderers are keen not to push him too far, given the significant progress he has made this season.
Should Davies fail to start the game, the most likely option for Lennon would be to recall Joe Mason for his first start since October 25.
Youngsters Conor Wilkinson and Zach Clough could also be an option but Eidur Gudjohnsen is almost certain to start on the bench, having been given international clearance to face the Tractor Boys.
Saturday’s game is also likely to come too soon for full-back Kevin McNaughton.
The Scottish defender started Lennon’s first three games in charge but has been missing for the last six with a niggling hamstring problem.
Lennon hopes to have the 32-year-old back in contention for next Friday night’s trip to Millwall.
