The lottery winnings have all gone now and and one of my aims for the new year is to save money.
So any cheap meal ideas? I don't want fancy recipes of Spanish chicken with Chorizo bake or Beef Burginon in red wine sauce, I want ideas like toasted sandwiches or a Fray Bentos.
What are your best cheap meal ideas please?

I quite like something on toast every now an again.

Cheese on toast with brown sause, sardinse on toast (even tried tuna when I was out of sardinse once and found that as tasty too), egg on toast, beans on toast.

Also a jacket potato done in the micro wave - either with just a knob of butter, or a topping - I like cheese myself.

Cheap, easy, quick meals.

Don't think I'd like to live of just those though.

Onion, feta, spinach & scrambled eggs on toast. Fry the onion and wilt the spinach then poor in the eggs and crumble some feta. Great breakfast too.

Yes potatoes are always good for making a meal cheaply, but like you say, you wouldn't want to eat that all the time.
Buying a whole chicken is great value. The amount of meat on it can go towards making a roast meal, chicken sandwiches and sweet and sour the next day.
I think pasta dishes have potential to make a good meal cheaply. I am thinking pasta, chicken from a whole chicken, sweetcorn, mushroom and use mayo as to give it some sauce.

I have been looking online at where the nearest food bank is, there is one just 2 miles away. I am going to see if they have any sauces likes sweet and sour or jalfrezi and what sort of wine they do. I could save myself a packet.
Thanks for the idea.
