Jay Spearing acknowledged Bolton Wanderers’ peformance was not good enough as they suffered defeat against Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.
Goals in each half from Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Brett Pitman sealed the points for the hosts at Portman Road.
Having seen the Whites more than match the hosts during the first half, Spearing was left feeling frustrated come the final whistle.
“We’ve had a few chances but we’re just not taking them,” the midfielder told bwfc.co.uk. “In the final third we’re not putting the ball in the back of the net and that is causing us a lot of problems.
“That’s been the story in a few games we’ve had recently. It’s disappointing. I think we were actually on top in the game apart from a ten-minute sticky patch.
“We played some nice stuff and created a few chances that we probably should have put in the back of the net. It’s all about goals and finishing teams off and we’re just not doing that at the moment.”
Spearing continued: “We need to stick together and get out our squad together and get out of this situation which we’re in. We’ve still got a long way to go and we need to tighten that gap.
“We’re experienced enough, we need to pull ourselves together because it’s only ourselves who can get us out of this rot.
“We need to step up and stand up for ourselves. We need to show that we are capable of doing better.
“I do think this squad is capable of doing better, and hopefully it’ll come sooner rather than later.
“Every game between now and the end of the season is going to be massive. We need to go into every game wanting three points and finishing teams off to give ourselves a chance.”
